Improving Reading Comprehension.

Assalamualaikum Wr. Wb.

Yoo hello guys, welcome back again in my blog hehe. Yep, long time no see and I have many schedule to do in my life. So what will I write today? Okay. Today I’ll write like the title “Improving Reading Comprehension”. Interesting, right? What we will be discuss? So, let’s start it!!!

Introducing !

Yeah, As we know Reading is one of skill in English teaching. Reading skill is one of the four main language skills taught in the classes. For example is Reading, Speaking, Writing an Listening. One way to increase the Reading Comprehension is by assisting to understand the structure. Pirozzi (2003) stated that “the writer often helps reader recognize important details by arranging them in a certain way, like a pattern of organization.”

In other way, to increase the Reading Comprehension is by doing the text structure tasks. Why Tasks? One research done by Gordon & Hanauer (1955) show that “testing tasks functions as an additional information source which interacts in one four ways with continuing development of the test taker’s mental model”. From the idea above, it can be clarified that to help the students construct meaning is integrating information from the text.

Okay, now let’s go to the Discussion.

Discussion 1 !

Okay, so there are 6 steps to do in this discussion :

1. Step One, Asking type of writing the writer uses. By asking the students the types of writing or text, the students are led to understand the rhetorical components.
2. Step Two, Asking the students to find the way the writer organize the text. This will be led the student to understand the organization of ideas which are considered of chronological order, spatial an logical order.
3. Step Three, Asking the students to find how the text is developed. This will be led the student to understand the development of ideas.
4. Step Four, Asking the students to work in pair and find how the idea is classified into groups. They will be very active doing this tasks.
5. Step Five, Asking the students to find what the main idea of paragraph is. This task is asking the student read paragraph by paragraph and asking the student to find the main idea of each paragraph.
6. Step Six, Asking the students to find how each paragraph is relate to each other. They are led to learn how each idea are related by doing this task. And then repeat it.
